Shimano Ultegra 14000XTD
The Shimano Ultegra XT-D is not just a reel. Like its predecessors, the XT-D is a culmination of all the advances made by Shimano to this point, lovingly crafted to reach the peak of its potential. Aesthetically, it is sleek, stylish, beautiful and eye-catching. Mechanically, it is state-of-the-art, practical, efficient and incredibly versatile. The Shimano XT-D is not just a reel; it is a work of art.
The 14000 model has two line reducers, one measured at 10000 and the other at 3500. The XT-D has a great deal of versatility, allowing for various different types of line as and when they need to react to the situation. This reel is crammed full of features and mechanisms that give it immense utility. There’s no fish you can’t tackle with this magnificent creation.
Xship is a series of mechanisms inside the reel. Together, they significantly improve the overall feel and performance of the XT-D. By improving the structure, Shimano have optimised the power transfer from the handle to the rotor. In addition, two Shimano ARB roller bearings support and stabilise the mechanism, making it even more reliable.
The parallel body system incorporated by the Shimano Ultegra XT-D reduces friction by keeping as much line away from the rod itself as possible. Because of this, the reel significantly improves your cast range, making it easier to hit the spot you need to.
Allowing even less resistance, and therefore even more accuracy and range, is the angled lip of the ARC spool. Here’s a tip: If you’re having trouble with wind knotting, use this reel with a braided line. This combination significantly reduces the likelihood of wind knots, as well as mitigating backlash.
S ARB Shimano
As extra protection against particles such as dust and salt, Shimano has replaced their ARB ball bearings with the upgraded S ARB bearings. These act as a shield, protecting the internal mechanisms of your reel from corrosion.
Super Slow Oscillation
The XT-D 14000 features what’s referred to as “Super-Slow Oscillation.” This is the name used for the mechanism that allows for precise line lay, keeping the line neat along the entire spool.
Aero Wrap II
Adding extra precision to your line lay is one of the most advanced and effective line lay systems in the world; the Aero Wrap II. Along with the Super Slow Oscillation, this mechanism ensures that your line is as close to perfect as possible, meaning that when you cast, as little energy is lost as possible, further improving your cast range.
Cold Forged Aluminium
Shimano only wants the highest quality materials, so it’s natural that they’d use the highest quality methods of shaping them too. Cold Forging techniques press a single piece of metal into shape, making it denser and stronger than its heat-forged counterparts. In fact, Shimano was one of the first companies to master this technique, before even Toyota, and they’ve sworn by its effectiveness ever since.
Shimano’s advanced computer balancing techniques allow them to alter the weight of the rotor. This improves the reel’s sensitivity, and eliminates vibrations, making retrieval significantly more comfortable.
The Ultegra XT-D fishing reel features a single port that is used to apply lubricant to the entirety of its inner workings. Please note, however, that approved Shimano lubricant is highly recommended for this operation to ensure efficiency and functionality.
Floating Shaft II
By upgrading the pinion design with bearings and a lowered surface area, Shimano has eliminated a huge amount of friction; a major design flaw that plagues most fixed spool reels. Instead, their cutting-edge design leaves the mechanism ‘floating’, and as a result the XT-D is significantly more efficient and remains fully functional for much longer than competing reel mechanisms.
Efficient design and engineering has led to a more effective rotor-to-handle system. Energy transfer is improved, effectively meaning you require less effort for more torque. Not only that, but the components work together smoothly, reducing wear and extending the product’s effective lifespan.
Instant drag is exactly what it says on the tin; The spool can be changed from ‘Free’ to ‘Fight’ in a moment, allowing you to react almost instantly to a bite.
Super Stopper II
The super stopper mechanism ensures that the only movement in your handle is the movement you want. Just set it in antireverse, and it ensures any backward movement disappears.
Shimano’s original material is strong and light. This tried-and-true composite has been used on a multitude of Shimano reels and has held up to scrutiny and the test of time.
