Hidden beneath this graceful, flowing lines of the new Stella is a combination of a Shimano innovation, technology and engineering brilliance that delivers unparalleled fishing performance. Almost every component of the new Stella has been redesigned and improved. New gearing systems, bearings and even the positioning of internal components combine to produce a reel that not only feels better in your hand, it meets all of the challenges demanded of it with assured confidence.
To fully appreciate the innovation of Stella you have to experience it first hand. The finesse of the rotor when energising your lures or baits, the smoothness of the drag when playing fish, the power of the gearing when it's time to show them who's boss. Whilst Stella undoubtedly takes reel design, innovation and performance to a new level, it takes the joy of fishing even further and is an experience that once savoured will never be forgotten. The HAGANE Drive Gear is produced by Shimano's coldforging technology, without the need for additional machining. This delivers a longlasting smoothness, strength, lightness and power at the very heart of the reel.
Traditional diecast, machined gears are less durable under heavy loads. Micromodule The addition of MicroModule gear technology to the worm shaft idle gear reduces oscillation vibration. This is an incredible breakthrough in design and delivers an outstanding level smoothness without sacrificing strength or durability. The enhanced smoothness results in greater sensitivity transmitted from your rod, line and lure to your hand. XShip is a combination of features that work together to create much greater efficiency.
By positioning the pinion gear close to the centre line of the large diameter drive gear, more power is transferred from the handle to the rotor. The pinion gear is also supported by two Shimano ARB roller bearings. This creates more stability.
STL4000FI Stella 4000
The Stella 4000 is the ideal reel for large pike fishing with a perfect balance between size, power and line retrieve. The versatile 5.2:1 retrieve enables lures to be worked quickly or slowly with full control. The mid-sized spool is suitable for braid or medium and heavy mono, making the Stella 4000 ideal for fishing at longer distances.
The HAGANE Body is produced from high-rigidity aluminium or magnesium. This creates stiffness and impact resistance, while at the same time eliminating flexing of the body. The result is a rock-solid housing and support for the moving internal gearing and greater efficiency throughout the reel.
G Free Body
G Free Body technology has been developed to shift the reel's centre of gravity closer to the rod. This has been achieved by moving the oscillation mechanism 19mm from the bottom of the reel to the top. By moving the centre of gravity closer to the anglers hand position, the G Free Body helps to reduce fatigue and enhance casting comfort.
Cold Forged Aluminium
Cold Forged aluminium is used for some 'round' reels, fly reels and is also used for many types of spool. Made from one single piece of aluminium Cold Forging produces great strength.
EI Surface Treatment
E.I Surface treatment doubles the durability of the spool surface and gives less wear out by eliminating oxidation. Rigid Support Drag Rigid Support Drag eliminates spool movement and wobble, even at light drag settings. The result is an incredibly smooth drag even at extremely light settings.
S ARB Shimano
S ARB bearings are high corrosion resistant ARB ball bearings with an extra shield for improved protection against sand, salt or dust. One Piece Bail The one-piece bail wire has no gap for line to snag on during normal operation. Made of Stainless Steel, it reduces friction and allows the line to get onto the line roller quicker.
Aero Wrap II
Aero Wrap and the advanced Aero Wrap II is a worm gear oscillation system with a specially designed pitch to create optimal oscillation speeds. This provides superb uniform line lay to reduce loss of energy during the cast. Aero Wrap II is considered one of the best line lay systems in the world.
ARC Spool Shimano
ARC Spool is a patented spool design with an angled spool lip. This design enables the line to leave the spool with less friction and in smaller coils resulting in longer more accurate casts. ARC spools are proven to reduce backlash and wind knots when using braid.
DynaBalance reduces wobble during the retrieve by counter balancing the rotor to enhance sensitivity and smoothness. By using computer balancing Shimano are able to redistribute the rotor weight to create eliminate vibrations.
Easy Maintenance is a small oil lubrication port that enables direct lubrication of the inner workings of a reel with approved Shimano lubricant. Some highend Shimano reels have a line roller lubrication option.
The precision engineered main Hypergear transmits more power from the handle to the rotor. Designed to exacting tolerances, it requires less effort but returns more retrieve playing torque with vastly reduced component wear. Magnesium Shimano use magnesium for a select number of ultra high quality reels where weight saving is essential. The use of magnesium offers a weight saving of up to 10% compared with aluminium.
One Speed Oscillation
One speed Oscillation the spool moves at a consistent speed. Power Roller The special grooved design of the Shimano Power Roller significantly reduces line twist and is a big advantage when using thin mono and braid.
Super Stopper II
Super Stopper II eliminates backward movement and free play in the handle when the reel is set in antireverse. Waterproof Drag Using special protection gaskets, the drag is protected against the intrusion of water for more consistent drag performance.
